Nail Psoriasis Treatment – 25 Tips on Nail Psoriasis Treatment.
1. Nail psoriasis is hard to treat, as nails grow very slowly. It may take up to 1 year for fingernails, and 2 years for toenails to grow out normally. Nail psoriasis treatment needs to be maintained the entire time.
2. Nail psoriasis is hard to treat, as the problem is actually deep in the nail bed underneath the nail.
3. Steroids injections under the nail are extremely painful and usually do not work.
4. Removal of the nail, using a high concentration of urea applied to the nail (the nail becomes jelly-like and can be peeled off), surgical nail removal or the nail removal with the use of the X-ray therapy usually does not work, as the nails tend to grow back abnormally.
5. Massaging topical steroid creams into the cuticle may temporarily improve Nail psoriasis. However, there is the risk that the cuticle can abnormally thin.
6. Massaging vitamin D derivative (Calcipotriol) cream or ointment into the cuticle is known to help very well. Calcipotriol creams or ointments (Dovonex®, Daivonex®) should be massaged into the cuticle for about five minutes twice a day.
7. When Onycholysis (loosening of the nail from the nail bed) is present, Calcipotriol scalp solution (Dovonex® lotion, Daivonex® lotion) can be dripped under the nails and massaged in.
8. The nails should be kept short, trimmed to the point of their firm attachment.
9. Protect your nails from damage because this can worsen the problem - try wearing gloves whenever you are doing something that may damage your nails.
10. Rubbing moisturizers into the nail and cuticle or soaking them in emollient oils may help.
11. Try applying oil or a fatty cream overnight.
12. Soak the nails in warm vegetable oil (sunflower, olive etc.)
13. Holding the nails for 20-30 minutes in a tray with warm water will soften the nails and the skin around them, which will improve the penetration of any medicine under the nail plate.
14. Toe nails can be soaked for 20-30 minutes in a tray with water which softens the nails before gently filing the thickened part of the toe nails with an emery board, and using sharp scissors to trim off small pieces of the nails.
15. It helps to always wear comfortable shoes, which gives room for the toes.
16. If the toe nails are affected - file off the excess thickening of the nails to remove the pressure from the wearing of shoes and reducing pain.
17. Nail hardeners (for fragile nails, for example Nail Tek Xtra Nail Strengthener) may improve the nails appearance. Apply on the nails once a week.
18. Generally sold in the drugstores and pharmacies, there are different varnishes - for affected nails, for nail strengthening, against stratification, anti-fungus etc. - they are colorless, but a little glossy.
19. Artificial nails disguise psoriasis very well. It is possible to equalize the surface of the disfigured nail with the aid of acryl. If a fungus hitches under such nails - it is possible to rapidly get rid of it with the aid of any anti fungus ointment or an anti-fungus systemic medicine. Artificial nails affect the native nail - it becomes thinner etc.

21. Sitting on the shore of the sea in the summer soak you feet and hands in the water.
22. Brilliant green and iodine. First soak nails in a salt bath, then trim and clean them. Then apply iodine onto the nail, around it and underneath it. Repeat it 7-10 times. Please note - iodine is hard to wash off.

They can be very effective in helping to control skin flare-ups and relieve symptoms, such as itching and irritation. Also, they help reduce the likelihood of infection that may occur as a result of scratching and trauma to the skin.
