Do those who retire early live longer? -

the later you retire, the earlier you will die. A variation on this theme is the "fact" that, in some jobs, average life expectancy after retirement is just 18 months. We've seen it said of teachers, prison officers, surgeons and others.

A paper attributed to the aircraft-maker Boeing shows that employees who retire at 55 live to, on average, 83. But those who retire at 65 only last, on average, another 18 months.

People who retire early because they are seriously ill will make average life expectancy for all retirees of that age look lower.

Science has given the world "no excuse" to resist bold action against the spread of the 30-year AIDS pandemic

"What we need now is the political, organizational and individual will to implement what science has given us."

Other major groups, such as the World Health Organization, currently urge treatment after the disease progresses to a certain point, or when the body's T-cell count, or CD4 count, reaches or falls below the level of 350 cells/mm3

Western fast food tied to heart risks in Asia: study -

(Reuters) - Even relatively clean-living Singaporeans who regularly eat burgers, fries and other staples of U.S.-style fast food are at a raised risk of diabetes and more likely than their peers to die of heart disease, according to an international study.

But Asian fast foods, such as noodles or dumplings, did not bear the same risk, the study published in the journal Circulation said.

New weight loss drug — really? -

Recently a new drug was released and approved by the FDA. It is called Belviq. The fact that it passes may seem like great news for people who want to lose weight. But we do need to look at the details of the studies done to see if its worth not only its price in dollars, but also its potential negative effects.
