It is also used on occasion for the treatment of medication-induced movement disorders caused by antipsychotic drugs and certain anxiety states in people suffering from a specific form of social phobia .
Beta blockers , such as propanolol, are not useful for people with general social phobia who are anxious in most social situations; instead, propanolol may be useful for people who are anxious about specific performance situations, such as presenting a speech before an audience.
For the treatment of performance anxiety or stage fright, a single dose of 10–40 mg may be administered 20–30 minutes before the event.

A Pill To Forget? - CBS News -
l study of a drug called propranolol, a medication commonly used for high blood pressure ... and unofficially for stage fright. Pitman thought it might do something almost magical – trick Beatriz's brain into making a weaker memory of the event she had just experienced.
"Propranolol sits on that nerve cell and blocks it, so that, think of this as being a key, and this is a lock, the hole in the lock is blocked because of propranolol sitting there. So adrenaline can be present, but it can't do its job,"'

Propranolol, a beta-blocker drug, obstructs certain memories in the brain that are known to trigger relapses among alcoholics. the drug could delete a stimulus in rats' brains if the animals had a craving for drink.
Propranolol targets the beta-adrenergic receptors in the brain which help to create a strong emotional memory. Scientists believe the drug may work by stripping emotion from the memory. The discovery could revolutionise approaches to the treatment of chronic alcoholism.
