Complex vs simple carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are an ideal source of energy for the body.

Complex carbohydrates provide a slower and more sustained release of energy than simple carbohydrates.
E.g. Wholegrain rice, wholegrain pasta, potatoes, chickpeas, lentils, oats

Simple carbohydrates are also known as sugars. They also exist in either a natural or refined form. Natural sugars are found in fruit and vegetables.
E.g. biscuits, cakes, chocolate, honey, pastries, snack bars

The majority of carbohydrate intake should come from complex carbohydrates (starches) and naturally occurring sugars rather than processed or refined sugars.

Moderate exercise tied to lower breast cancer risk: study
(Reuters) - Women who exercise moderately may be less likely than their inactive peers to develop breast cancer after menopause, according to a U.S. study.

Those who'd exercised for 10 to 19 hours a week in their "reproductive years" - the years between having their first child and going through menopause - were one-third less likely to have breast cancer than women who'd been sedentary during that time.

Women who'd started exercising after menopause also had a lower risk. If they averaged 9 to 17 hours a week, they were 30 percent less likely to have breast cancer than their inactive peers.

This is a statement that I have seen swirling around the internet and medical community in the last couple of years that I highly contest."Most people with depression will get better without treatment." People are feeling the "blues" not depressed. A few weeks ago I posted about the myths of Right Brain/Left Brain activities all perpetuated in error and they continue to exist.

Suicide rates are sky rocketing around the world and I cannot find any decent studies proving the above statement (could it be political, financial & or a basic bias) For more informationhttp://www.befrienders.org/info/index.asp?PageURL=statistics.php

Please send me a valid research link to support if you disagee with my belief, as I am open to change if presented with facts.

Here is a very good article about signs/symptoms and treatment. However there is no reference regarding the above quotes claim.http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Depression.htm

Cancer, Health Psychology and Your Immune System

Cancer was thought to be an immune deficiency disease. In order for someone to develop cancer, the immune system must have been weakened which in turn allows the cancer cells to develop, mature, divide and spread. Scientists today believe that the development of cancer is not just the result of a weakened immune system.

As cancerous cells divide, they can develop characteristics that hide or defend themselves from the immune system’s recognition. Cancer cells can also mix up the signals between immune cells and send out its own messages to confuse the immune system and prevent it from responding effectively. In other words, cancer cells are very intelligent.  For a more in depth read http://bit.ly/zGsgyc
