Anyone born from 1945 to 1965 should get a one-time blood test to see if they have the liver-destroying virus. Baby boomers account for more than 2 million of the 3.2 million Americans infected with the blood-borne virus. It can take decades to cause liver damage, and many people don't know they're infected.

The Most Neglected Health Test For Men
By Molly Raisch, Men's Health

Many doctors don't regularly check their patients' hearing.
physicians skip nearly half of all regular evaluations at yearly checkups, and one of the most routinely missed tests is the hearing exam, it gets bypassed nearly 70 percent of the time. "It's so important to regularly get a hearing test because all too often people don't know that they have a problem,"

Hearing loss can mean a higher risk of Alzheimer's.
It could be a red flag for cardiovascular disease.
Problems with hearing can lead to depression.
An exam could spot cancer.

Duke doctor uses laser procedure to repair eardrum | »
A Duke doctor is using a painless procedure to repair hearing loss.

"The Eustachian tube allows air to get into the middle ear. If it's not working right it creates a vacuum in the middle ear and the eardrum gets sucked in the like saran wrap."

"The heat from the laser caused the collagen to snap back to its native position and it tightens the eardrum,"

The painless procedure took only five minutes but gave back years of hearing loss.

After Liposuction, Exercise Keeps the Fat Off
by By GRETCHEN REYNOLDS

Liposuction, generally considered the most popular form of cosmetic surgery, removes fat from just beneath the skin, but to avoid regaining fat of an even more harmful variety, a new study suggests, people need to exercise.

http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/06/13/after-liposuction-exercise-keeps-the-fat-off/
Liposuction Might Have 'Boomerang' Effect

patients in the sedentary group experienced a roughly 10 percent increase in visceral fat, equating to what the authors described as a "significant regain of total fat mass."

"Sure, you can get rid of some of it with surgery. But if you don't change your lifestyle, it doesn't stay away forever. And certainly if you've spent all this money and incurred the risk of undergoing liposuction -- and it's not a risk-free option, by any means -- why wouldn't you want to do what you can to preserve the gain?"

cardiovascular exercise, in particular, is one of the best ways to go. That means jogging, swimming, biking, roller blading, getting your heart rate up for an extended period of time and burning calories. Even walking helps to decrease visceral fat, even in people who have not had liposuction.

There’s a good reason PSA testing has saved many lives: It often catches cancer early. There has been a 40% decrease in prostate cancer deaths since the 1990s, when the PSA was first used, and a 75% decline in the diagnosis being made after prostate cancer is already advanced.

Anyone who is suffering from bone pain and chemical castration from advanced prostate cancer can tell you they wish the diagnosis were made earlier.

the 64-year-old mother suffocated because of a backlog of food outside her stomach, which had been surgically shrunken to the size of a thumb,

"After surgery, correct behavior should be measuring food, eating small amounts several times a day and not eating to the point where you're too full or throwing up,"

Symptoms like bad breath, vomiting and regurgitating food can signal a digestive obstruction, a risk associated with bariatric surgery.

"This is not a natural cause of death. It is not an accident because she chose to eat. She died of a known complication of an elective surgical procedure of a gastric bypass."
